Advising on Science curriculum development in Northern Nigeria (2015-19).
From 2012-15, supported Ministries of Somaliland and Puntland to
• clearly define and update the curriculum in formal and non-formal educational sectors.
• strengthen the capacity of Ministry staff to revise, develop and implement a modern curriculum and assess its effectiveness.
I worked closely with the Ministry of Education and relevant NGOs to successfully develop an agreed framework for all Primary, Secondary and Non Formal education. Educators were also trained to restructure the existing curriculum and use active learning methods throughout the system. A ‘roadmap’ for an ongoing process to support curriculum change and innovation was formulated.

Previously, I’ve been fortunate to have had a varied and interesting career in Education, leading two Secondary schools & working in a variety of others. This experience was supplemented with three periods of secondment (quality assurance and assessment work at national level). Headship encouraged significant innovation and improvement against a background of increasing confidence and teamwork amongst the staff and pupils.

Also relevant is;
1. Quality assurance and moderation- HMIe associate assessor & National Officer with HMIe audit unit (self-evaluation);
2. Strategic advice draft for Scottish ministers ;
3. Innovation and change management;
4. Quality assurance of resources – Writer of published Science textbooks & materials; conference speaker on good practice; senior assistant examiner for Higher Chemistry; on national working group to revise Higher Chemistry.
5. Positive leadership style described as very effective by external evaluators.

I am passionate about the education of our children and work hard to bring out the potential of every pupil.
